The teacher interview process starts with you applying to the district teacher pool (you can apply directly to school but I recommend doing both... I’ll get to that in a minute). If you are accepted into the teacher pool, you are invited to exclusive hiring events (which is where I met my future boss!). The interview process really depends on what school you are interviewing at. I had some principals ask me to prepare and present a lesson plan, and some did not. Every school I interviewed at did have at least 3 people interviewing me, though. Some interviews lasted an hour+ and some lasted 15 minutes. My advice to you is to RESEARCH the school you are interviewing at as much as possible before interviewing. The turnaround from interviews to job offers was fast for me. However, be prepared for the hiring process to be S L O W. HISD is the largest school district in Texas and I think the HR department is a little overwhelmed. It took them about 6 weeks to process my paperwork and I was a re-hire! My best advice to you is to be patient and follow up. The HR department is very hard to get in touch with, but you have to be diligent and try not to get frustrated. Overall, HISD has a lot of resources for teachers and it is a good district to work for IMO.
