I applied and within a week, someone called me for a short phone interview. However, they called me at like 9pm at night. I didn't expect a interview call so they just left a voice message. I called back several times but she didn't pick up the phone until 3 days later. Luckily I was able to get in contact with her and she arranged me to fly down to SD for an interview.
Interview took about 4 hours and have 4 major components:
1. Technical Interview with a HR and a hiring manager.
2. Inbox activity: They give you around 20 minutes to read over a package of papers with around 10 emails and a scenario. Then, you need to rank them according to which one is more important and need to be done first. Also, need to provide reasons.
3. Presentation: You enter a room with around 3 people and they will first give you a paper with 3 topics. You need to choose one of them and have 10 minutes to prepare a 5 minutes presentation. The audience will come back in and you will need to present it. They will also provide feedback.
4. Group Activity: With around 5 other candidates, you guys are given a scenario (plane went down in a rainforest and there a list of items that are given. What will you bring with you if you can only take 10 items and provide reasons). it's pretty fun but also kind of weird because each one of the candidate will be assigned an Illumina's employee to watch over them. This is to assess how you interact in a group setting.
There are breaks in between each activity so don't worry.
