Difficult interview
Application
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Imprivata in May 2013
Interview
Expect to meet with a lot of people before getting a PM job at Imprivata, including the CEO. They really care about products as a company and it shows in the interview process. You also get a good idea of the company culture during the interview process which will give you a good idea if it's the right fit for you or not.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
You cannot BS them on anything, most people you interview with are looking for it and would rather hear I don't know instead of some made up ambiguous line.
Had a standard screener with a recruiter and then spoke to the hiring manager, who made it clear within 5 minutes that either she didn't like doing interviews or didn't want to talk to me. Was very robotic and asking for details about my resume job by job, gave very curt and uninformative answers to questions, and seemed to be trying to get the interview done with ASAP. Probably better that I got turned down (by auto message of course) as this doesn't strike me as the kind of company where creative problem solving is embraced and Product Managers are just expected to deliver on requirements given to them.

Question 1
Why did you leave your last job? Why did you leave the job before that?
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Imprivata (Lexington, MA)
Interview
Basic phone screens with HR rep/recruiter, then calls with hm and then in-person interviews. Lots of confusion around who was the actual hiring manager, and then the in-person interviews were disjointed, making me feel like I was a burden to have in the office, as times and interviewers were shifted around from the agenda, or didn't show up at all. They use a gauntlet-style of interview, only giving about 30 minutes for each person. Each interviewer leads off with the old-school 'walk me through your resume' line, which indicates that they haven't taken time to read it, and are not too familiar with behavioral questioning to get good insight into how you may perform the role. I did not feel that this role was a priority for them due to the interview experience, so I feel like I may have dodged a bullet by them not wanting to move forward with me.
Thank you for your feedback on your recent interview experience. We are continuously evaluating our interview best practices and your feedback will help us to improve going forward.
