The interview process consisted of three phases: a phone screen with a technical recruiter, a technical screen with a hiring manager, and lastly four hours of panel interviews across data engineering, data science, product, and a bar raiser with the director of infrastructure. The phone screen and technical screen with the hiring manager were pleasant experiences. The panel interviews, however, were a complete miss in my opinion. Each interviewer was distracted and uninterested in the conversations. There was very little time for questions about the role, team, or company, and most of the questions were hyper-specific about Instacart's approach to solving problems tertiary to actual analytics engineering. (designing an advertising reporting system, handcrafting old-school ETL queries, describing a system you've created in detail to someone unfamiliar with the technologies used). Overall, this was a very disappointing experience.
