Phone interview followed by email requesting completion of online assessments of aptitude and personality. After a little more than a week HR called to say an offer had been made to someone else and that the person had already accepted.
I have a lot of respect for a company who takes the time to circle back with candidates who are not selected. That was a first and very courteous. I was not given any indication as to why I didn’t make it past the phone interview with HR, but the parts of the process that I was involved in were handled very well by their HR contact.
I feel like the online assessments can be misleading and that nothing can replace the experience of meeting someone face to face and discussing similar questions. Then again, my background is not in technology so a robotic approach versus a personal approach may be considered normal. Good/interesting learning experience in that regard. If you’re going to interview take the time to prepare for the aptitude assessment as it is timed and heavy on analytical skills and math. Kind of like a mini/speed version of the SATs.
