I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at J. Crew (New York, NY) in Oct 2013
Interview
I brought in a physical application to the store I wanted to work at (you have to), and I immediately was able to talk to a manager and be introduced. The HR manger was available when I came in so I got to talk to her immediately as well. She asked me basic information about myself from the application mostly and then called me the next day asking me to come in and talk to the store director. I came in a few days later and sat down with him, he gave me some background info on the company and that particular store and then started asking me about myself. Basic questions mostly, but very conversational. He was really easy-going, as everyone had been, and I was hired on the spot.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at J. Crew (Atlanta, GA) in Sep 2022
Interview
I applied online, then I called the store and notified them that I had just applied. They pulled my application and sent me an interview with store manager. Interview lasted about 15 minutes, no additional interviews.
At least for the holiday season, they contact you in the fall to begin the interview process. Pretty straightforward questions. I met with 2 of the managers. Company gets back to you within a couple of weeks.

I applied online. I interviewed at J. Crew (Santa Clara, CA) in Aug 2018
Interview
The whole process finished in less than 15 mins. It went very smooth and casual. Ask about my background and any retail experience, why do I want to work at J.crew and these very typical questions. I feel like if you present confident and nicely and chat a little bit helps people make a good impression on.
