      Jcpenney Interview

      May 22, 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Plantation, FL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at JCPenney (Plantation, FL) in Jan 2010

      Interview

Initial communication: The initial communication was with a regional recruiter, who I was connected to through my store manager. She was quite personable and really paid attention to my family's needs as I transitioned into the Manager position. She setup all of my initial interviews as well as follow up meetings with relocation assistance. Best part! She actually came into town and met myself as well as the other managers in training around the region for dinner. This really helped put a face behind the corporate side of things. Number if interviews: 3 I had an initial interview over the phone with the regional recruiter. This was a general question interview to ensure I fit the personality they were looking for. My credentials were ensured and backed by my store manager. My second interview was with another store manager in the district about 2 weeks later. He was a great mentor-type from beginning to end. It didn't even feel like an interview, as I was really listening to him explain the position. At the end, he asked me a few questions based on what he showed me around the store as well as his history. It's a test of details! The third and final interview was with the district manager of my destination district. The DM was very professional in his laying out of expectations and gaining a commitment for the position. Short and sweet! Be calm, confident, and positive. The People: The successful leadership within this company are in a word, driven. You have to be driven to survive in this position. Thus, showing your interviewers you have the tenacity and vitality to last the non-stop retail world is key to gaining their trust. As long as you are willing to learn from each leader you work with as well the people that work for you, your leadership skills will grow in this position. Be willing to learn.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Difficult: Are you willing to be solely held accountable for the sales in your departments? Answer this question with confidence, but don't be overconfident. You will hit your max as a leader 3 times over before you are ready to really be held accountable. Be ready to grow! Unexpected: If you are recruited by another company for your success, what will you do? I was truthful in stating I would see my options, but am loyal to a company that chose me, relocated me, as well as supported me and my family through the entire process of becoming a manager.
