I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at KPFF (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2014
Interview
Positive interviewing experience, well received upon arrival. Interview begun with a short two question exam that was composed of one conceptual question and one semi-calculation truss system question. I was interviewed by two senior level engineers, who asked questions ranging from what I did with each design class at postgraduate school, to what I was looking for in a design company. They presented various aspects of work that they do.

Question 1
No very difficult or unexpected questions, apart from the initial quiz which was not anticipated upon arrival.
Applied online. They got back to me for an interview 2 weeks later. They asked basic technical questions so study for those. The interviewers were really nice and they helped if you didn't understand something.
The interviewers first introduce the culture and the environment of the office, then have a set of technical problems, includes steel and concrete design and basic statics. After finishing the problems, you will need to discuss your answer with them. Finally, there are some behavior questions.

Question 1
Why you want to apply for the company and why should they hire you. Technical questions are not difficult but I suggest you do go over some basic concept before the interview.
I applied online. I interviewed at KPFF (Sacramento, CA) in Jan 2020
Interview
Fair and typical questions you would expect, followed by a structural quiz covering basic topics of structural analysis and design. Not a difficult interview I would say, which was done by the principal of the location's office.
