Interview
I was reached out to by a recruiter on LinkedIn about a month ago. She asked if I was interested in this role and I said yes and if she could send over a job description. She did and I said I was interested in learning more. A week went by and didn't hear anything so I assumed that was that. All of the sudden she asked me to fill out a questionnaire on my experience which I did. Then the next day I was asked if I could do a phone interview with the hiring manager. I was on my honeymoon so I said yes I could but when I returned. The day after I got home from my honeymoon, I was called by the recruiter and emailed that a last minute change was decided on how the interview was to be conducted. I didn't have an issue with that exactly. It was just using a different platform. At the scheduled time, the hiring manager called me and we spoke for almost an hour. It was a pretty good conversation so I thought. I called the recruiter right after as I said I would. She said that the hiring manager had actually reached out to her as well saying he was impressed with my experience and would probably want to have me come on site for an in person interview. But first they wanted me to do a coding assignment. I received the assignment that evening. I worked on it over the weekend and had it submitted so the recruiter would have it Monday morning. She reached out to me Monday evening and said she would probably reach out to me in the next day or so to schedule the in person interview. Then I never heard from them again. Even after reaching out to both her and the hiring manager.
It's fine if they went with someone else. That isn't the problem. The problem for me is that they made me believe that I was a top candidate for them and then just never respond to me again. I find that to be extremely unprofessional and a good indicator of how this company treats employees. As far as I can tell, I dodged a bullet.
