      Operations Specialist Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Lutron Electronics in Oct 2009

      Interview

Had interned with them over summer, and it took them about 3 months after the internship to get me an interview. Flew me to HQ and put me up in a hotel the night before (flight reached at 1am and I got to sleep by 2pm, had to take a cab). Asked me to get ready for tours at 7am and then had 7-8 rounds of interviews the whole day, had to take lunch during an interview. Interviews went really well, and the interviewers were impressed, and it was apparent they liked me, my internship work, courses, and technical know how. Had technical rounds, personal rounds, IQ/case based rounds, general role playing rounds, and a couple of teams interviewed based on what they were looking for. Now its been over 1 month and a half but no response from them, and each week I would get an email saying it'll take them another week to decide. I really didnt like the unprofessional attitude since one would expect a company to know of its hiring needs before asking someone for an interview. Not at all the experience I had while interning, which was the reason I wanted to come aboard in the first place, people and work culture.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Questions based on technical skills, like Economic Order Qty., Lean, Supply Chain, etc. Some questions based on case studies, IQ stuff, and role playing exercises which focus on keeping track of a plethora of information. The interviews were well planned and had optimal mix of questions pertaining to resume, IQ, critical thinking, logic and technical skills, but the management lacks.

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Lutron Electronics (Coopersburg, PA) in May 2010

      Interview

First a round of phone interview with the hiring manager, followed by invitation to Lutron HQ in Coopersburg PA. Its usually a long day of interviews. I was interviewed by hiring manager, HR manager, director of operations and even a VP for the business unit. Rigorous interview process but my recommendation is to keep a cool head and try to work through the problems as much as possible. They are not looking for right answers, they are looking for the thought process. After I was hired, I myself interviewed a few people. Remember, this is a manufacturing company. So brush up on the fundamentals of operations management - found in any basic operations management text book.
