I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Madewell in Dec 2013
Interview
Walked in the store, asked if they were hiring and they had me fill out an application in the store. The woman that was working the register then asked me on the spot a few questions along the lines of "why madewell?" "describe the ideal madewell girl." I was then called to have an interview with a manager in store. I received a call two weeks later and they said that I would be an asset to their brand but need someone that is more available for the season. Instead, they asked me to call at the beginning of February for a seasonal position in the spring. I called and didn't hear any word back.
Sat down with the store manager as she read through an entire binder full of repetitive and unnecessary questions. She read off about 12 questions directly from the page, making it feel like more of an interrogation than a conversation. This interview wasn't necessarily difficult, just repetitive and disingenuous.

Question 1
Any difficult customer encounters? How did you handle it?
The interview consisted of a brief discussion with the store manager about former work experience and what would make me a good fit for the position and whether or not the position was a good fit for me.

Went through an interview with two hiring managers. This is for a store opening so it took place in a JCrew. I submitted a resume via craigslist and then had one interview.
