I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MathWorks in Jun 2011
Interview
They ask basic questions from the field of Calculus, C++, Programming basics and control theory. Being a generic interview, they offer you a very generic position and depending on your interest and performance move you to a specific department within 18 months. The questions on calculus most probably start with solving Matrices problems on paper. or they can ask you certain theorems of Mathematics. For the rest of the sections, they would ask you terminologies and definitions from the subjects. On clearing the HR round, which is basically collecting information about you and the technical round mentioned above, they invite you to visit their facility in Nattick for a group/ panel interview. The questions asked there are a combination of personal and technical questions. Upon selection they have an induction process which takes place at the first of every month.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Find Eigen values of a matrix. This was very unexpected
first round - pre recorded interview
second round - technical interview, screen sharing may be required. they will ask whatever is in your resume, nothing outside of it so be sure to answer your work well
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MathWorks in Nov 2024
Interview
Step 1- Call from a recruiter and in initial screening. Very straight forward.
Step 2- Call from a hiring manager that will last about 45-55 min. Discusses the role and asks you some basics technical questions and lets you ask you any questions. Again, it seems very straight forward.
Step 3- Technical interview. Asks you technical questions about simulink. Lasts about 55 min.
Step 4 (Presentation: on-site)- This is the most difficult one. You will have to make a presentations about yourself and a case study that is related to simulink. The manager and the recruiter will guide you and help you make the presentation.
During your presentation, you will get interrupted many times that will throw you off from your rhythm. Questions come rather passive aggressive style. After the 45 min presentation, you will go for lunch. The entire lunch is a full on interview. They will ask you technical questions as you are walking to the restaurant and ordering food. The entire lunch is an interview. This part seemed kind off off as you are eating food and he is asking you technical questions. He was even asking me questions as I was ordering food.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Mostly asks you questions about Simulink. You need to be an SME on that. Before the interview, I informed them all that I'm not an SME on simulink, but i have used it before and I can get up to speed in given time. I was told that I will have 4-5 months ramping up time.
After the interview, they realized that they needed an SME that can run with the ball right away.
Interviewers were very smart and talented people
The overall process was exhausting, I had to make a presentation about myself talking about my background and why I think I am the right candidate. This was followed by several 121 interviews.
