I applied online. I interviewed at Mathnasium (Arlington, VA) in Apr 2018
Interview
There was a short practice test from basic arithmetic and fractions to probably SAT level math. There is soft time limit, but I think the faster the better. Overall, it was quite simple, maybe brush up on your algebra skills. Finally, we finished with a short conversation about teaching methods.
The interview process did not mention the exam that they administer so this was unexpected 2.5 hours live exam for a teenager who tried to get a part time job. He passed but the business ghosted him afterwards without any replies to follow ups. For a business that is centered around education is completely unacceptable behavior towards young people. The least you can do is to send 2 sentence email that the candidate did not make it especially when they passed your two hour test. They should not be allowed to teach young people with such approach to high school students during the interview process.
Math questions from all levels. Basics to grade 12 math. Techniques to teach, times tables, Lin algebra. Sat me down, asked me to do a test and spoke to me about some questions related to tutor experience
I had to first do a phone interview (general and behavioral questions) then was called in a few days later for a 50 question math exam. The exam was not too bad, just brush up on trig and algebra skills and you’ll be fine.
