      Management Development Interview

      Jul 8, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Los Angeles, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr (Los Angeles, CA) in Apr 2019

      Interview

I submitted by resume on my school's career portal, then was contacted the very next day by a recruiter. I set up a phone interview for the next day, which was very simple and really more of a vague explanation by the recruiter of what the job entails, although it really piqued my interest. Had a second phone interview soon after, and was then asked if I would like to come have an onsite interview within their facility. After arriving there, I was asked to fill out some paperwork, and then started on a factory tour of the place. I constantly asked questions about the equipment, people, and processes that I observed walking through--so many that the interviewer got the chance to ask me only 3 questions. After that, went out for a lunch interview, then had 2 more one hour interviews. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that it is going to be a LOT of talking, so make sure you bring water and are hydrated! Ask questions at the end of each of the formal interviews, and make sure you answer everything analytically and carefully, framing each explanation to the best of your ability. If I had to sum up the day in 3 points if you want to get the job: 1. Ask lots of questions 2. Essentially brag about yourself to the best of your ability, and relay it back to your academics and schoolwork, if possible and applicable 3. Read up on warehouse efficiency management, and know some facts about how warehouses are run and operated. Make sure you study! Key word? Efficiency.

      Interview

      1) 30-minute phone call with recruiter, they review your resume and confirm your location preferences. 2) Super Day, you get flown into the warehouse, get a tour of the facility, go throw a project share, and have 2-3 behavioral interviews. They ask for detail about experiences covered in your resume. They give about $600 stipend for traveling to/from the airport, eating, etc. They also book your travel for you.
