      Associate Mechanical Design Engineer Interview

      Aug 15, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Northridge, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Medtronic (Northridge, CA) in Mar 2019

      Interview

Very long, slow, and inefficient. Poor communication throughout and treatment does not make you feel valued as a prospective employee. Overall, a very negative experience that left a bad taste in my mouth for the company and I can't say I'm eager to ever apply again. Applied online, a few weeks later got a 30 minute phone interview with an HR representative in Texas (not located at branch where I was applying). Roughly a week later I got a 1 hour interview with hiring manager. Another 1-2 weeks later I had a follow up technical phone interview with a Senior Engineer. Roughly a month later, I had an on site interview which i had to drive 2 hours to get to. The interview consisted of 4 consecutive interviews from 10am to 2pm with no scheduled meals or breaks. I felt it went well, but I was not given a timeline of when I might hear back. Two weeks later I emailed the HR representative who I was supposed to hear from and got a very short, terse response saying there was no decision yet and that they would personally tell me soon. Four weeks later, I received an automated response email informing me I didn't get the job- the very same email that is sent to people who get rejected immediately and don't go through 3 months of interviews. In hindsight, I'm incredibly grateful I didn't get an offer because after seeing how much better I was treated in other interview processes, I realized how poor this process was and I can only imagine that this treatment is reflective of how they treat their employees.
