I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Brooklyn, NY) in Sep 2015
Interview
Applied on line and then 30 to 45 days later received a call from the hiring director to come in for an interview. Scheduled an interview for the following week and Interviewed with two people: The Director and the Project Manager.
Basic questions about education and work background and of course the "Why do you want to work fro the MTA". They seem like very good people to work with but I could tell this wasn't the right fit for me or them. Overall, the building is nice and its located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn with lots of stores and restaurants. If you like downtown or midtown Manhattan this is a good place to be too. Maybe next time MTA, maybe next time.

Interview
I've interviewed for a couple positions, often it's a mix of wwyd-type questions with a technical portion based on the role. I enjoyed the experience! The panel was very warm, unlike some government interviews where a strict script must be followed.
My interview was in mid-april and I'm still waiting for an official answer.
