I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Microsoft in Feb 2011
Interview
Got a call from MS regarding an interview set up at a location altogether different from my city. I accepted the opportunity and travelled all the way there for the interview.
First sentence: Oh! u are from ABC. We do phone interviews for that city and take locals for in-person. Don't know how this was messed up. Well but we like in-person interviews so lets get started!
Asked about why I applied for this position, what is my fav machine/gadget and why, wht software on it do i like most and why, wht is one feature u wud like to enhance in tht software and why. my software was MS ppt! He like the suggestion tho
next question was on FB messaging - how to improve those features. After considering all the options i presented and he thought of, he picked one and asked me to write function level details for it on a whiteboard. Once that was done, he said 'ok thank you'
Of course I got a 'sorry' email but it was interesting to see the level of functional detail expected out of the candidate applying for a PM post - they do view PMs differently. Apart from the HR location goof up, no catch anywhere. in fact most questions were from Glassdoor itself!
Other Project Manager Interview Reviews for Microsoft
2 week after applying online the recruiter called, we set up a phone screen, after that completed a 3x back to back interview with an hour break in between. Not too bad overall and very manageable
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about a difficult stakeholder and how you handled the situation
Interviewed at Microsoft but I did not get an offer. Team was nice and there were free drinks and some snacks on site which was a plus. I would love to apply and interview again!
I applied online. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA)
Interview
Typical behavioral interview process. STAR format style interview questions. Why do you want to work at Microsoft, tell me about a time questions, greatest strengths, greatest weaknesses. Consisted of a recruiter screening, and three back to back interviews with senior and principal PMs.
