      Enterprise Account Executive Interview

      Jul 10, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB in Jun 2019

      Interview

The interview process, for me, took about 3 weeks. The last two weeks I had an interview almost every day, about 8 interviews in total over 10 business days. The order/people I interviewed with basically followed this model: recruiter, hiring manager (x2), area VP (x3), regional VP (x2), and another area VP. Most of the interviews were with a single person, but one ("the challenge") was with most of the listed personas. Throughout the whole process both the hiring manager and area VP were calling to give feedback, which was incredibly helpful; they showed their support to me as a candidate, coached me a bit, and gave great insight into the area/company culture. Truth be told, I felt like I had already been hired on given the amount of MongoDB prep I was doing, and the daily feedback I was getting. Briefly, I want to cover the challenge: "the challenge" is basically a QBR that you're doing for MongoDB before you get the job. It's the last interview, the make or break. You're researching accounts, ranking them, picking personas, hypothetical targets, writing hypothetical emails, and defending your theory for why/how you did all of the above. It's definitely a well-thought out culture/experience, so over-prepare for this piece. On top of that, you'll be presenting a MongoDB slide deck too. While the slide deck is mostly standard now, with all of that stuff combined it becomes overwhelming. One tip: learn the MongoDB lingo for this. It's a very strong culture, and as a result, knowing the lingo goes a long way. Overall, it was a process that was true to how MongoDB does things. You'll definitely find out if it's a fit for you going through it. It could have been less stressful... and yes, I'd say it was above average even for an interview process, but most of that would have been alleviated if it had been a week longer.

      Question 1

Why MongoDB? What are you looking for in your next role? What's a deal you're most proud of (and walk me through it from start to close)? What other companies are you interviewing with? How did you generate pipeline/deals at your last company?

      Interview

The hiring director was great to work with. However, the panel and final-stage interviews with the two other regional sales directors felt unwelcoming and condescending. They showed little interest in sales or discovery skills. The clear expectation is that you arrive as a product expert. Be prepared for an interview style that can feel dismissive if you can't match their technical product knowledge.

      Interview

The best hiring process I've ever done. Very detailed, complex and complete. Gives the company the opportunity to really understand the fit of the candidate and also gives the candidate the opportunity to understand the company way of work.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at MongoDB (Dubai) in Aug 2025

      Interview

It was one of the strangest interview processes I’ve ever experienced. Instead of HR reaching out to me after my application, it was directly the sector manager. He said he wanted to have an initial interview, and so we did. It was more of a casual chat rather than a structured interview — we didn’t really go into background, strategy, or sales processes. To give you an idea of how casual it was: he occasionally checked his phone and even used one of those electronic cigarettes during the conversation. At the end of the meeting, he mentioned there would be an assessment, which they would share with me, and that based on the results, the next steps would be decided. I completed the assessment, and during this time, we were even in contact via WhatsApp. After submitting it, I informed him as well. After that, complete silence. All messages stopped. My questions went unanswered. My messages weren’t even read. I assumed the process was over (at least for me it was), but I still wanted to receive some feedback. Yet, no reply ever came. Not even an automated rejection notice :) I was ghosted. Not exactly the most professional behavior.

      Question 1

It was a casual talk. They asked my Bachelor, some of about my experience.
