A recruiter reached out to me to interview for the role. They mentioned that even though I came from a more technical background, I would be a good fit for the role. Next, I had an interview with the hiring manager, who believed I was a strong candidate despite not directly having a background in product marketing. I had another interview with a fellow teammate, which went very well. I went almost 2 weeks without hearing from HR and sent numerous follow ups. Finally, the recruiter reached out to tell me that the VP looked at my resume and rejected me due to not having enough experience in product marketing. I felt that this was extremely unfair because I was told from the beginning that the company was looking for someone with a technical background, only to be rejected for that very reason. If the VP had actually taken the time to meet me before coming to his/her decision, and not base it solely off my resume, I would not have been as upset about the decision. I didn't appreciate my time being wasted going through multiple rounds of interviews and then being rejected solely because of my resume.
