I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB
Interview
1 - Virtual meeting with HR manager
Had a great initial interview with HR manager. As in any initial call, the goal was to explain the role, and understand my current position to see if it was a good fit. I was optimistic about the opportunity.
2 - Virtual meeting with hiring manager
The second interview with hiring manager started with a long and ostentatious presentation of his working career. Then, I had a chance to present myself. Hiring Manager came with pre-conceived ideas of my company, my profile and the way people on a position similar to mine work. I had no room to properly explain what my role is without being challenged. All my (correct) answers were considered "unacceptable" because of a misconception or misunderstanding.
3 - (No) follow-up
Despite this, I was told at the end of the interview that I would receive a follow-up email to do a couple exercises as part of the following step. I never received it. But based on the experience I had during this interview, I would not have accepted any further steps.
NB:
I work in a company in which challenging is awarded and I embrace it because it has helped me grow. However, the way it was done by this hiring manager is exactly what I was told about MongoDB’s reputation and refused to admit.
This unfortunately gives a poor impression of a manager's human skills and of the company, indirectly. Performance culture is also the work environment I am looking for, but to be at its maximum capacity it has to be mixed with emotional intelligence.
