      Prime Brokerage - Placement Interview

      Declined offer
      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at Morgan Stanley (London, England)

      Interview

Began with on-line tests - preparation from various sites with SHL style tests is more than adequate. Then followed a telephone interview that was with a member of HR team and was largely just to test your knowledge of the Prime Brokerage division, Morgan Stanley as a whole and asked a few competency based questions. Got invited to the assestment centre which involved retaking of the tests (they were very similar - some of the data was the same), a group exercise (we were asked to come up with an idea for an App to make money from the London Olympics - note the interview was before the Olympics), then there were three 1 on 1 interviews with members of the prime brokerage teams. We were also required to 'present' from a fact sheet they provided. Basically it was a long sheet and we had to extract data to 'present' on their question - I forget the specifics of this one though. I say 'present' because when we were taken through to the 'presentations' there was a row of cubicles and you basically 'presented' sat down to the first of your 1 on 1 interviewers which then rolls into your first 1 on 1 interview. Some of the questions were stupid logic based ones a la google but largely un-challenging. Questions I remember: - How are prices determined in the market? - Can you tell me what an ETF is? - Name a stock you've been following lately and why?

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How many golf balls would fit in this cubicle?

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Morgan Stanley (London, England) in Nov 2015

      Interview

First stage: Online test as per usual (industry standard) Second stage: Phone Interview cca. 15 minutes (more personal with couple of easy knowledge questions) Third stage: Assesment centre - 7 hours or so (interviews, math test, presentation, group work) Possible fourth stage: MD interview - apparently some students that did not get an offer right away were invited for further interview

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Second stage: What are the implications of the financial crisis? / What does Sales & Trading division do? / Tell me about a time where you had to face challenges (or something along the lines of this idiotic question)
      Answer question

      Question 2

Third stage (interviews): Probability math questions / More in-depth questions about the divisions / Where do you see yourself etc.
