      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      May 26, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at MuleSoft (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2017

      Interview

What other negative reviews say about Mulesoft's interview process is true. Its a really bad, broken process. It was a very long process. Had a call with recruiter first and since interests matched, i was asked to take up their Karat interview. Karat interview was the standard process that everyone else has mentioned about. I was asked about my background first and then was given 4 topics ( Web APIs, Networking/Security, Databases, Performance/testing) and asked to choose 2 topics on which i was asked further questions. This went well. Then i was asked the standard matrix question that many have mentioned about. Finding rectangles of 1's surrounded by 0's. This went well as well and i was asked to come onsite. The onsite consisted of 4 rounds. First one with Hiring manager which was behavioral, second was white boarding with en engineer whose questions were pretty vague and he didn't seem to understand what exactly he was expecting, third one was a coding exercise which i finished and fourth one was a behavioral with the head of engineering. There was another final round with the chief product officer as well. All the interviews went well and i was told an offer would be made soon and the recruiter was working on it. But then i get a last min call saying they have decided to not make an offer. The reasons given were very vague, something about the company being data driven so it was always looking to re-evaluate candidates. Then why go through the entire process in the first place? This company's interview process is broken really badly as pointed out by many others here in glassdoor and they are losing out on genuinely good and interested candidates because of that. This my first glass door review ever and the only reason i'm writing this is to make sure people know what they are getting into when interviewing with this company. They change their minds very often and have a very slow, fickle, annoying interview process.

Thanks for your feedback, I am so sorry you felt we didn't communicate with you enough about the process and our reasoning. That isn't right, and it sounds like we have a lot to work on. I would be happy to provide you more information if you'd like to reach out to me directly. It's true we are very data driven, but it's not a reason to turn down a candidate without sufficient explanation, especially after taking so much time to interview with us.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MuleSoft in Apr 2019

      Interview

Multiple rounds of back and forth with recruiter with regards to position. They interviewed first time for one position and discovered during interview that I am not eligible for that position !! Next interview for a different position was scheduled after couple of weeks. This time a junior engineer was assigned for phone screen. He asked two basic technical question. One was silly , the other from leetcode. He couldn't articulate first question. Not sure, but seems he was looking for a specific answer verbatim.

I got here at 9am, but they weren't ready for me, so I had to sit and wait for 40 minutes. I didn't realize the pair-programming session was paired, since the guy was just doing his own work the whole time.
