I had quite a negative experience interviewing at NYU. The position was PT and temp and the interview process was obnoxious.
One of the HR admins asked me to name a time I dealt with a difficult client and how I handled it but I never had a client so I thought that question was slightly odd. I elaborated all of my former professional experiences prior to the question being asked. Although I was slightly annoyed by the question because it was quite stupid in nature, I pleasantly stated once more that I never dealt with clients because being that I am 25 years old and have solely had administrative based experience, I have never had a client. She was insistent upon me answering the question and didn't really listen to what I was saying. The HR director also asked me if I have ever posted jobs in the local newspaper when working as a recruiting assistant in the corporate office for a retail store. I thought that was also a ludicrous question considering the positions were low level (sales associates, cashiers, store managers). I have never heard of someone posting a retail sales associate in the local paper but again, the entire interview process was an incredible waste of time and left me feeling irritated.
The HR director also was extremely sarcastic and kept joking as I answered each question which would disable me from getting my full answer across. I thought that was very unprofessional.
It is more than fine if the HR team did not perceive me as a fit for the position but they should have not kept me in the process for 2 hours worth of time (over the course of two days). It overall felt like a colossal waste of time and I found them to be inappropriate as well as rude. I ended up not getting an offer which is fine because if they were to extend an offer, I would swiftly decline. I would rather be unemployed than work here.
