I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at National Security Agency (Baltimore, MD) in Apr 2015
Interview
That was a long wait time. Supposed to start at 10:00, got called in after 1,5 hours. The interview went faster than expected. But keep in mind that the room that you will be in, while waiting, is monitored by multiple cameras. I am not sure, but I think they might monitor for behavioral clues as well. They're pretty busy interviewing people there.
Interview was conducted online, without a proctor. It allowed you to read the question, think of your answer for about thirty seconds, and then record. If you didn't like your answer you had another attempt to record.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about the culture of the language you speak.
The test took 3 hours which was the most important part of the process. If you get good scores the interview should be a breeze. We took a writing, reading, and listening test and the results came out the next day and were sent to the recruiter.

Question 1
How did you get your skills?
Tell me about the culture of the language you speak.
Super simple language test that allows a total of six hours, of which intermediate proficiency requires much less time than the two three-hour blocks of time. Given a CJO a week after the test, but declined since the process can take up to 42 weeks
