      Customer Service Assistant Interview

      Apr 30, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Leeds, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Network Rail (Leeds, England) in Apr 2019

      Interview

The recruitment process for Network Rail is very slow. Expect to wait around 4-6 weeks for an interview date after completing and passing the online assesment. Interview was compentancy based. The biggest let down of the interview is the customer scenario exercise. While other employers allow you time to make notes and think about your response. I was not allowed this instead I was expected to remember what the scenario is and to give a answer without thinking. Overall the process is a shambles and I personally believe a conversation around football with the interviewer lead to me not being offered a position.

      Interview

During the application process i was asked a series of questions like name a time when you went above and beyond. I applied in early july and wasn't contacted until mid November for a group interview. I would say there was about 6-8 managers on the pannel from different roles. We was given a paper with scenerios of what may happend around the station and we had to discuss and write down what we would do and who we would contact in each situation, its primarly to see how you would discus the situation so be vocal. Then we had a station tour. Then we had a one to one which was role pay based on a situation at the station. Finally I was just asked one question about safey.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Network Rail (Leeds, England) in Sep 2020

      Interview

I applied to the position in mid-to-late July 2020. I was offered the opportunity to complete an online assessment early August, to which I received my successful result four days later alongside an invitation to an online interview to be completed a week later. The assessment consisted of literacy tests to assess our reading and comprehension levels. The next online interview was short, asking only five questions and required background understanding of the company and its values for success. Nearly a month later in early September I was contacted to say I was successful in this online interview, and invited to an in-person assessment centre in Leeds, at a local hotel. This took place the next week, and they were extremely friendly and social-distance-aware the entire time. We had a short presentation delivered to us about the job role, and completed a group task which featured a customer service situation, where we had to discuss a difficult situation and work out what we would do, and nominate someone to feed back to the assessors, of which there were the same number of candidates in the room. This was followed by an individual interview with two of the assessors, presumably one being the assessor assigned to me, which was rather enjoyable as my interviewers were attentive and friendly. We then had to fill our our previous employment for the last three years, provide identification and then could leave if we were ready. They had suggested we would be there three and a half hours, the entire process lasted for an hour and a half at most. After nearly three weeks at the start of October I was told I was successful in this, and am still awaiting a start date for this role. I am told there are also in-person checks and other background checks involved.
