I was sent a link to create a Google Calendar invitation, leaving my contact info as requested. The interviewer was late because someone was using the conference room. We spoke for about 25 minutes before the interviewer cut the call short because someone else needed the conference room. The interview felt rushed; I am not sure we covered all we needed to cover.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked about diversity policies in hiring. I babbled a bit since the companies I have worked for did not have an explicit policy to encourage diversity. My recent hires were COBOL programmers, which tend to be white males in their late fifties.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at New York Times (New York, NY)
Interview
I️ was initially recruited by a 3rd party who said they would send my resume to the Times for review. A recruiter from the Times then emailed me to set up a phone interview. She called 10 minutes late, and opened with “wait which job are you applying for again?” After I️ spent a total of 3 minutes describing my experience she said “I’m gonna go ahead and interrupt you and not waste your time, we’re looking for someone with experience in a different field.” She clearly hadn’t even skimmed my resume which made my experience evident. This woman was clearly unprepared and unprofessional. She wrapped up by lecturing me on how I️ was unqualified.
