      Application

I interviewed at Oliver Wyman (Sydney)

      Interview

Applied online. Overall a long, draining process and overall a quite unprofessional. I hate to think how they treat their staff is this is how they treat potential employees... Every interview with them was the same... They said to come in for a "chat". Every one they told me not to worry about preparing for a case study. However every time I got into the office to met them they seemed to take delight into surprising me with full a case study. WTF? I work for a consultancy and have applied for other management consultancies so know how the general process works, so prepared for the case studies anyway (thank god). But why wouldn't they just say to come in to do a case study? Very odd... Every interview was 100% case based. Over multiple interviewers nobody asked anything about my resume or a behavioural question. Not one question! Interviews started off with a partner and each subsequent time it seemed to be with somebody more junior in the company. All had zero personality and came across as quite aloof. The partner I interviewed sat there for 1 hour with his arms folded throughout the whole thing. Another associate left half way through the interview for 10 minutes to get himself a coffee? Another got himself water and didn't offer me any? Haha honestly who are these people, do they meet with clients like this? Most interviews weren't even with people in my team or who I'd be working with. It got to be a bit of a running joke that at the end of the interview when there was time to ask questions, generally nobody could answer anything I asked because they were in different teams. Why ask me if you can't answer anything? Despite applying for a particular area within the business based on my background (I won't say here for anonymity, but let's pretend for the sake of this it's in telecommunications). I got asked cases about every industry except for this. Not one question about Weird? After the final interview I had to chase them over email / phone numerous times over 2 weeks for a response. When I finally got through, they said that I had been unsuccessful. When asked if I could get any feedback they said they didn't have any from the partner. I made a mistake on one of the maths components of the case so I'm guessing that? Pretty disappointed overall. If this is what your HR practices are like I'm happy to not have got this one, I'll keep looking :).
