      I interviewed at Optiver

      Interview

Really negative experience with HR. Spent a lot of time on my application (had to submit a solution to a mathematical problem) and scored highly on the first test (in the 97% percentile). However, then I had a 30 minute interview with HR. The interview was the strangest I've ever had in a job application asking minimal details about myself and very specific details about the company (where are the offices located, year it was founded etc.) which other companies I've applied for have never really cared about. It was also quite unfriendly in tone compared to other interviews I've had. I then received an email a couple of days later asking if I was free that afternoon for a phone call for an update on my application (strange in itself - normally this would be done by email and at less short notice?). So HR phoned up that afternoon with a rejection, but essentially spent 5 minutes slating my application - not mentioning my good solution to the problem, or my high score in the online test - instead criticising the fact that I said the US office was in New York office when it was in Chicago and I got the date it was founded wrong. I was told my answers were 'generic'. It was all quite harshly phrased and negative in tone. When I asked for further clarification on the fact that I was being rejected over my precise knowledge of Optiver as opposed to my problem solving skills, HR seemed to take offence, told me 'we are going around in circles, this conversation is no longer constructive and I will now hang up'. And she hung up!! I have never been hung up on a phone call before! It was really quite astonishingly rude, given I had clearly spent a lot of time on my application and that I was available at very short notice for essentially a 5 minute call of her criticising my performance. Felt it revealed a lot more about the company than about myself - very happy to not work at a company where HR hangs up on people! Definitely my most unpleasant job application experience so far - cannot recommend.

      Interview

The first section was the online assessment which wasnt too bad, and the next part was a scheduled face to face behavioural interview. Still waiting to see if i passed that stage of recruitment
