The whole process was odd. It started with receiving a calendar invite for an initial screening at short notice (I accepted just to see what they could offer). The interview consisted of standard and easy get-to-know-you questions with the hiring manager. However, the hiring manager made negative comments about their former CFO. After the interview, he confirmed that HR would be "contacting me about the next steps" (which is normally said when someone is moved forward to another interview)... but instead, I received a rejection email the same day.
