I submitted my application to one of their open job reqs on ebaycareers.com and received a call from a recruiter the same day. I had an initial conversation with her and then a followup phone screen the next day. After that, I was asked to come in and do an interview in their office. I met with 4 or 5 people. Each of them had a different area of interest they questioned me about. I had to write code on a whiteboard and discuss what I had "coded" and why. I also met with a manager.
After that office interview, I got a call back within a week asking if I could fly to their office in San Jose, CA. I was in Phoenix, AZ at the time, so they arranged everything and I flew out in the morning, did the same type of office interviews, but with 7 different people, and then flew home that night. It was an exhausting day, but I felt like they knew the kind of person they were looking for and they wanted to be sure they hired the right person. This was encouraging that they wanted to fly me to their HQ, but also a bit stressful in terms of wondering if I was going to make the cut after such an extensive process.
In the end, they extended an offer and I accepted. They also did a background check, which seems pretty standard these days. That took some time, so from the time I submitted my application to my first day, was probably about 5 or 6 weeks.
