a terrible experience. I interview with the recruiter for an initial screening. The HR person seemed so inexperienced - I had to volunteer to go through my resume and experience. They went over the JD and then there was just silence, I had to volunteer my experience. The HR person did not offer to give any information about the company, the culture, the role etc. They only asked what salary I was looking for, I responded 10K less than what the range cap was posted on the JD. The recruiter then responded "wow - I thought you would ask for more since you are from NY" - one of the strangest things I had an HR person tell me. Other than that I thought the screening went well.
When I followed up on next steps, the HR contact proceeded to tell me that they are not moving forward and I asked for any feedback to help me in the future. The HR contact then tells me they are looking for someone who requires a lower salary and she knows I am in NY - again using my location against me for what unknown reason.
I was COMPLETELY confused when in fact I stated a salary that was posted in the job description - utterly confusing. I responded to the HR person, stating exactly that and even offered that I am flexible. In fact, HR should have email me or mention on the call that the range is actually within xyzy range but fail to do so and lost a candidate because of that. I responded saying that it was false advertising and wasting candidates time, they should update the JD, which they responded saying marketing has abudget but the role is set by the compensation team - in the end they need to get it together!
