I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Payless ShoeSource (Shawnee, OK) in Dec 2012
Interview
I was approached by a recruiter (DM) at my, then, current job. She was impressed by my customer service skills and was looking to fill the position of General Manager at my local branch.
I told her I would be interested to hear more (but was not sold on it- I liked my current position). We set up a phone interview so that we could talk more. After the phone interview, she asked me to submit my application online. Their online application center was a mess to get through (I hope they have fixed that). After that, I met the DM in person over coffee at which point, I provided my resume to her. A job offer was made and after a few days of thought, I accepted.

must apply online, if manager thinks your hours will work with their schedule they will call you and set up an interview. Usually a second interview is needed before hiring

Hiring process is pretty easy. You get called in for an interview with store manager, if you are a good potential you get scheduled for a 2nd interview. The most successful candidate is called back and an offer is made.
