Had two interviews. The first one was great, built a great rapport with the lady I met with. She set up a second interview with another rep from the company. I was completely blown away by her lack of professionalism. Showed up for the interview late (and I'm always 10 minutes early, so ended up waiting approximately 20 minutes total), then proceeded to do a couple of tasks and make some phone calls while I waited. She was dressed very casually considering her level within the company, and looked like she rolled out of bed. We then found somewhere to have the interview in the mall when she realizes she forgot my resume and another document she required for the meeting at the store. She leaves, comes back a couple of minutes later. She then starts prying for information regarding why I left my previous employer after being very clear that it involved confidential legal issues that were still very sensitive. She continued to ask for specifics. Then she asks me situational questions like how I coach my staff. I explained that I have extensive training in Practical Coach and Situational Leadership and walked her through the steps I would take based on the scenario. She then tells me that she doesn't think I know what coaching is. Blown away, I ask her what she thinks coaching is, and she tells me it's when you spend the day with one associate coaching behaviours. I explained that there are many facets that make up what coaching is, and that would be one example of it. After receiving many commendations from previous employers about my coaching and training abilities, I was very surprised by what she said. At the end of the interview, she asks me for references, and I explained that one of my previous employers does not offer references (which is a common policy in the industry) and that I could give her a reference from the employer prior to that, or for someone who used to work for the company. She insisted she receive a reference from the one who does not offer them. I was very unimpressed by her very casual demeanor and lack of professionalism overall. Should they offer me the position, I will not accept knowing that these are the type of people leading their teams.
