Embarrassing. The recruiter was in her second week of employment. She was 15 mins late and was very nervous and unprepared. Although my experience and skills matched every bullet on the job description, I was emailed after the holidays letting me know they were moving forward with other candidates. Surprised, I emailed back asking if she could provide me with a couple examples of skills or experience the other candidates have that I am lacking, to help aid in my continued search. No response.
Digging deeper into the team I would have been managing, I discover on LinkedIn that every person with the TAM job title is male. And all but one are white. By eyeballing thumbnail photos, I'd safely guess all are under the age of 30. Pretty safe to say since the hiring manager and VP of the group is male, white, and 32.
None of this is surprising looking at their Leadership team. All male but one. All white but one.
I was excited about the role and perhaps even more excited now that I see how much my management and professional experience would be valuable to mentor the existing team and to grow it to be more diverse, but I prefer to work for a company that values diverse perspectives already.
