Did an application online Friday night, was called 2 days later to come in the next day at noon for an interview. Good thing I got there early, when i walked in and said i had an interview all the staff looked confused. One asked my name & when my interview was scheduled, and told me to have a seat, i sat for about 5/6 minutes & he came and said i should come back at 4 when the hiring manager would be there. I was confused but came back at 4 anyways, in the same outfit i was wearing earlier except for my sweater because it warmed up. The person who called me was there this time, as i stood up to shake his hand the only thing he said to me was "Okay first thing, something we do here is I'm gonna need you to come back wearing dress pants, so just do that and come back then we can get started on the interview." I was so baffled i just said okay thank you and walked out.
Now yes i know you should be wearing dress pants to an interview but I've worn this exact outfit (solid, dark bootcut jeans and a solid lace blouse) for nearly every interview I've had, and being that I've never interviewed or had a job at a highly professional place, (its been restaurants, retail stores, fast food) I didn't think twice about my choice of pants.
I was disapointed in the lack of professionalism, scheduling something and not being there for it and asking me to come back at a later date, then not even proceeding with the interview because of my choice of clothing. Unfortunately for me this is my home gym so I will have to go back until my contract expires, but if i had the choice I wouldn't.
