      Customer Service Representative Interview

      Jul 17, 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Cleveland, OH
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Cleveland, OH) in Jul 2013

      Interview

Just a few hours after submitting my resume I received an email response which gave me the instructions for the next step. I then took a one-hour test that consisted of various questions regarding my skills, personality, etc. I soon received an email about a few hours later, which told me that I had passed the test and that I was moving on to the next step. I received a call the next day, and I scheduled my one-hour phone interview a few days after that. The phone interview was around 45 minutes and it consisted of about 5 STAR questions, and various questions regarding why I decided to apply for Progressive. After the phone interview, I waited a couple of days and received an email telling me I was once again moving on to the next step and that I needed to complete a background check. I was informed that I would be called to schedule an on-site interview. A day later, I got the call and made a time for the three-hour interview, which would consist of two one-hour interviews, and time to listen in on a few calls. Two days after that I went to the interview, and I was interviewed by two extremely nice women. I went a little over on the three hours, but I actually enjoyed the interview. The questions were very thorough, but I felt comfortable because both of the women made sure of that. Everything expected of me was explained in great detail, and the two women seemed very excited about their jobs and had interesting stories to tell. Both women made sure that I fully understood the interview format. They encouraged me to ask questions or to take a pause if needed. I found that some of the questions were quite similar, so I would recommend to think of two responses to each question. There was roughly 20 STAR questions total. I felt that I was prepared because I spent a lot of time thinking of various situations I've had to deal with in the workplace regarding customer service and problem solving (especially since I only have two years of work experience total). Overall I had a positive experience, but the questions were challenging and they had started to become exhausting by the end of the interview. Barely a day later I received a call with the news that my background check had passed, and that I was being offered the position.

      Interview

I submitted my application and then got invited to complete a HireVue interview. It was about eight questions, all requiring STAR style responses. After I finished the interview, I received a rejection email. I honestly hate when companies play in people’s faces like this. What was the point of making me do an online interview if you already decided based on my resume? If you weren’t interested from the start, just say that. I have very little respect for companies that reject people through recorded online interviews, without ever allowing them to speak to a real person. It feels less like recruiting and more like a way to collect personal data our voices, our faces, without any real intention of moving forward.

      Interview

Straight forward typical call center interview. Initial interview was a phone screening where the recruiter asked for a background description of my resume. Two days later I interviewed with a supervisor and hiring manager. Entire process took about 2 weeks to receive job offer.

      Interview

Recruiter was rude, emailed me an hour before my interview and asked if I was available right now. I quickly responded and said that I could be ready in 20 mins sighting that our original interview was not for another hour. Upon the interview he made a comment about not being able to drop everything and start the interview an hour early. I had inquired about a religion question and holidays that differ from normal US holidays and he said yeah that wouldn't really align with our values. I should have sued. He sighted on my after interview report that I didn't have the experience he was looking for (which was a lie).
