      Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 17, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Austin, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Quadient (Austin, TX) in Jan 2010

      Interview

My initial communication was with a recruiter that discussed the position. After that I phone interviewed with two members of the senior management team. There were questions regarding my ability to code and my training/education. After that was some general personality questions. Once I passed that interview I was on to a panel interview with the engineering team of about 5 others where it was really a get to know you personality fit more so than a quiz interview. The people were great.

      Question 1

They did ask oranges or apples...and I'm still not sure why. I asked later and they said just to throw you off.

      Interview

hr did a phone interview with me. Then asked me to do an online assessment. The online assessment was not about coding skills. Instead, some of questions were asked to solve puzzles. It was a bit tedious and time consuming. After that, I has never heard back.

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Raleigh, NC

      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Quadient (Raleigh, NC)

      Interview

Applied online. Got a fast response. Took an online coding assessment then got set up for an interview with the development manager. This consisted of a lot of technical questions, mostly javascript related. Then there were two more assessments during the interview conducted online, also javascript. After this was done I got to ask some questions, then received a very fast response they would be moving forward with other candidates. In the email I received, this line is concerning: "Unfortunately we cannot provide specific feedback as it may be held against us." Really? Companies are not under any obligation to give specific feedback, but just leave that line out. This makes the company look shady. Personally for me, as javascript heavy as the job seemed and as tired as the manager sounded, it didn't sound like a role I would be interested in taking. But, you should be proud of the company that you work for and have that show during the interview that this is the place to be! I made the mistake once of accepting an offer when the interviewers sounded dead and lifeless, never again. And if you're not going to give feedback, don't say too much in the rejection email that makes your company look like they're hiding something. Keep it simple and straight to the point.
