      Support Specialist II Interview

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Raymond James Financial (Troy, MI) in May 2016

      Interview

A corporate recruiter did the phone screen and she was excellent; cordial, paraphrasing the expressed, most of the questions revolved around my resume and education. No STAR or behavioral. My on-site interview was a week later. I had to place myself a foot away from the receptionist before she could muster up the effort to do her job. The interview was with VP of Sales. It was obvious he hadn't read my resume ahead of time based on his line of questioning. No STAR or behavioral. I was referencing my past experience in cross-functional teams when he launched into a tirade about how he wanted people that weren't ambitious; that would be comfortable being in the same position for years. He then said that his department had no opportunities for professional development or mobility. It was an aggressive reaction given that my example was merely demonstrating being a team player and flexible to organizational needs. Nonverbal was inconsistent; he was either sustaining eye contact or looking out the door to his left. I asked questions about the position because the posting itself seemed intentionally vague and meandering. My 3rd interview was with the Wholesaling Manager and it was obvious he was juggling before the holiday weekend. Once again, no STAR, obvious he hadn't read the resume, only asked a few questions, the last being how soon could I start. He gave me an entirely different description of the job and the department than the VP did. Thankfully, I never heard anything back from anyone and that's okay; it sounded like they had problems with employee retention, research indicated compensation wasn't competitive with similiar companies in the industry, and I was overqualified for the role.
