A massive waste of time. Applied online, recruiter reached out a few weeks later. Set up a phone screen a week after that. For some reason, Reddit has fresh college graduates with no real experience perform interviews for senior+ roles. This is where the issues begin.
The questions they ask are typical leetcode easy questions. I solved it within a few minutes. The interviewer, someone who just started at the company a few months ago right out of college, was obviously inexperienced interviewing experienced candidates, so they proceeded to waste the remaining 40 minutes of the call asking me to implement a pointless variant of the solution that no one would ever use in production. It was obvious they were trying to pad time, rather than just cutting the interview short for someone who is vastly overqualified.
I solved the problem for both requested variants, making sure to ask if they had any questions or if anything else was missing. I was given positive feedback, then rejected by email shortly thereafter. If you enjoy being condescended to by associate engineers with zero real-world experience, interview with Reddit.
