This was an odd and disappointing interview process. Interview process started out well, it soon went sour during last interview with CEO. Interview process (in rounds) went as follows: 1: Recruiter Interview 2: Interview with CPO 3: Same Day Interviews with HR Director, and Dir. of Supply Chain 4: Separate Day Interviews w/ CEO; General Counsel; plus a follow-up Hogan Assessment Test (CEO interview was first; General Counsel interview two days later). First three rounds were pleasant. Interviewers engaged in our conversation and vested in learning about my experience. Went down hill at the CEO interview in Round 4. Interview with CEO was most disappointing I’ve had, with a high-level leader. Recruiter stated interview would focus on building, delivering, and executing project plans within diverse leadership, ERGs, and diversity metrics. I prepared subject material and created a few mock-ups for the interview. From the beginning there was an odd aura and vibe. It was clear he WAS NOT interested or vested in our meeting. Initially, there was a sense his decision was made based upon first seeing me on video on looks. The vibes were not welcoming, encouraging or motivating. SUMMARY 1 - NO INTRODUCTION or WELCOME - AT ALL CEO did not provide any welcome or intro whatsoever. Very strange start to interview and tone setter: when my webcam turned on, I noticed he gave me a strange look and said,... “Hi there. Well, let’s get started…” Didn’t even provide his name or title; gave no intro, did not provide any background/career, gave no overview on himself or company- NOTHING. Without having information ahead of time, I wouldn't have even known his name. 2. Instead of providing a pleasant opening or intro, he jumped into quick, basic interview questions. (I had prepped and answered the questions thoroughly) QUESTIONS ASKED: What do you know about us? What do you like about us? What do you want to be when you grow up? 3. Next, asked for summary of my experience from first role in resume and continue through current. Mid-way through, I mentioned a program that I had managed- he interjected and asked me to explain process and strategy for said program- which I did. After answering he moved on without completing overview including most recent experience. 4: He asked two final questions: “What’s your superpower?” followed by “Do you have questions for me? 5: Interview was scheduled for 30min - after my questions to CEO, 7 mins remaining on the call. I asked if I could provide any project plans or any other programs or experience- he replied, “No, I have resume and there’s enough in here. You’ll hear back by end of week.” He ended the meeting with 5mins remaining. 6: He never asked specific questions to the focus of the interview or the role OR insight into successful prior projects. POST INTERVIEW 30 mins after interview, recruiter called, told me they are voiding the Assessment and CANCELING the (already confirmed) next interview with General Counsel. Recruiter stated CEO eliminating me from role. From interview: he didnt see relevant examples or experience on the 3 focuses of position. I voiced disagreement and provided feedback about the interview and admitted CEO didn't ask ANY questions relating focus areas or specifics; along with his un-engaged manner, AND that he didn't even introduce himself or provide any welcome. She ended with “Well, he’s the CEO, so…” This was a disappointing experience ESPECIALLY being for a role in DEI. I’ve never had an interview of this sort with any CEO and shocked at the dis-engagement and experience. There was no sense of inclusivity or belonging. OVERVIEW OF INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE - Lack of interest and engagement from CEO interviewer; tbh, I don't remember the interviewer smiling. - Did not provide opening, introduction, or welcome (didn't even give me his name). - He asked basic questions that are usually asked during a recruiter screening. - He never provided overview, specific or insights to the company, the role or its focus. - Never asked specific questions relating to focus areas of interview; but told recruiter the reason for eliminating me was due to not providing information or experience on focus areas of interview. - He ended interview early - He gave flawed feedback that was impossible to gauge from our discussion as he did not ask relative questions. - VERY apparent the interviewer made his decision from the minute my video turned on. - THEY CANCELED THE REMAINING INTERVIEWS AND HOGAN ASSESSMENT (of which they already scheduled and confirmed) RECOMMENDATION: Before getting to final interviews with RTI, to make sure you fit their CEO’s cookie-cutter image. If you do plan to interview with them, reconsider having long hair, man-bun, or accent. Just saying.
