      Marketing Researcher Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Robinhood (Menlo Park, CA) in Jul 2020

      Interview

First round was a general phone conversation with a recruiter. Second round was a "case study" type phone call with someone holding a position similar to that I applied to. Third round was a ~45 minute presentation of a research project I had previously conducted. I had my video on and almost all Robinhood attendees had theirs off, which I didn't love. I heard back after the research presentation that I would not be moving on to the next round (more individual interviews). I had presented a collaborative project and spoke of "we" throughout, which I later regretted given that part of the feedback I got seemed to be that I wasn't viewed as independent enough of a researcher. I would recommend treating it like a dissertation, where even if you have collaborators, you say "I" throughout your presentation. Then they can ask more specific questions about your role at each stage of research.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked me to relate my (more theoretical) research to company-relevant (applied) outcomes. So if possible you might want to choose to present a project that can readily be applied this way, if you have one.
