      Manager Interview

      Feb 4, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Semrush

      Interview

Interview process was very bizarre. Recruiter was great but overall it was explicitly clear that it is a Russian company and the employees in the US were beneath their Russian counterparts.

      Manager Interview

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Semrush in Oct 2024

      Interview

The interview process was reasonably fast but not well organised. While the company does use a standard process that should involve interacting with multiple team members, in my experience only the hiring manager asked questions and the team members sat in the video call catatonic. This was an extremely strange experience. To make matters worse, the hiring manager made ridiculing comments about my work experience during the interview. It could be possible that there are nice parts of this company, but considering how easily an interview process could be manipulated by a single hiring manager I would not take another chance at this company. My impression is that that there is at least a tolerance for toxicity at SemRush.

Dear Sender, We’re sorry to hear about your negative experience with our interview process. Since you haven’t provided any department-related information, it’s a bit tricky to find the details of your case. If you don’t mind, please contact us at hr@semrush.com. We’ll look into it. Manager Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Semrush in Feb 2023

      Interview

It was a very interesting process to say the least. I was contacted pretty quickly after submitting my resume and told that my resume was a GREAT MATCH and they were SO EXCITED to talk to me. We set up an initial screen and I had a very comprehensive phone interview with a recruiter who asked some grueling questions for a phone screen. After that I was moved on to the next round where I had a conversation with someone pretty high up at the company and we had a very laid-back chat. He lead me to believe I was being considered for one of two roles they were offering. I felt great about the opportunity and walked away feeling confident in my standing. After I sent a very comprehensive "thank you" to the interviewer (including some 'free' ideas he asked me to pass along), I didn't receive anything back for a few days so I followed up with the recruiter to inquire about the next steps in the process. I received information that they would let me know the following week. During that time, I was consistently advertised the same job posting on Linkedin and told I was a "Top Applicant" which was reassuring AND someone from the Semrush recruiting team even reached out to me on Linkedin to try and recruit me for the same job I had already been interviewing for. Kind of weird, but again, reassuring that I was a good fit for the role. A few days later, I got a random, blanket email from the recruiter saying they were going to "move forward with candidates who specifically meet their requirements for this particular role." Such a generic email with no other context. Of course, I followed up asking for specific reasoning why, but was ghosted. I guess I will never know why I was such a "great fit for this role" when I actually wasn't. Just another standard in-house interview at a company that doesn't actually know what they want. Hope they figure it out soon.

Can you tell me about a time when you had a difficult co-worker and how you dealt with that situation?
