I contacted the hiring manager who put me in contact with the HR staffing specialist. After a few phone calls I was able to schedule a telephone interview with the HR specialist.
During the brief telephone interview I felt as if the HR specialist was very junior. She really didn't understand the position for which I was interviewing and did not know what kind of questions to ask. She only asked two questions.
Her opening question was, "tell me about yourself." I customized my answer with information pertinent to the position and closed with information on why I was a good fit for the job.
Here second question was, "do you have any questions about shutterfly?"
My overall impression about the people who work at this company decreased dramatically after this experience. If the HR specialist is the gatekeeper for who is hired, they are definitely doing the company a disservice by having such a junior person screen perspecitve applicants. It almost seemed as if the HR specialist saw hiring as a tiertiary responsibility.
