      Devops Engineer Interview

      May 1, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Santa Barbara, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Sonos (Santa Barbara, CA) in Mar 2021

      Interview

45 minute call with team lead, who was actually a really nice guy. I then looked him in the eye at the end of the interview and asked to not be ghosted, even if I did not get the job. His response, verbatim: "We don't ghost people here at Sonos! I promise I will get back to you within a week or less." I then proceeded to be ghosted for weeks, even after sending multiple follow up emails. So I was lied to directly. Really poor communication and no courtesy from this company, obvious that they do not value candidates time as much as their own which is a big red flag. It really sucks because the role and technology seemed great. Issue at this place seems to be the people themselves.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Sonos in May 2018

      Interview

1st had a phone screen interview with the recruiter who has been one of the best recruiters I've worked with thus far. Next had 3 additional interviews over zoom. Some where technical discussions and some were more casual conversation. Finally went to Sonos and had a day long interview with 5 interviewers. Mostly technical discussions and implementation questions. Had one "code test" and some technical troubleshooting. Overall had a positive experience, but was determined to not be technically experienced enough to suit their current needs.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sonos (Seattle, WA) in Apr 2018

      Interview

The recruiter was excellent and provided many details up front about the position, the team, and the company. Probably one of the best recruiters I have worked with. After the initial discussion with the recruiter, a video conference interview was scheduled with the development manager for the team. Topics covered during the first interview were mainly higher level design questions, and general knowledge about the technology used at Sonos. The second interview was also a video conference, but it was with a member on the team I was applying for. The interview was very conversational, and we actually went over our initial time slot without realizing. It really helped me understand the team structure, the current work in progress, and future work planned. Once both video interviews were completed, I was asked to fly out to the Sonos office, and complete a quick take home coding test. The coding test only took a few hours and that included me adding extras not explicitly required. The scheduling of the on-site interviews was very smooth, and they worked with me to fit them in on very short notice. I met again with both people I had previously interviewed with, as well as two other members of the team, and a director of engineering. Each interview was 30 minutes to 1 hour, and lunch was included. Overall it was an excellent experience, and I would definitely apply again in the future.
