I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Southwest Airlines (Dallas, TX) in Jun 2018
Interview
My F2F in Dallas was a very unpleasant experience. I am a older former flight attendant with 17000+ hours in the air. I quit flying to raise my family although I always wanted to return. I heard Southwest hired older flight attendants and decided to give it a try. Submitted my resume online, passed my phone interview, and was invited to Dallas for my F2F. There were 6 in our group. The lead interviewer was someone from HR who did the group presentation. Within the first five minutes, she stated that those are you are current or former flights , it will make no difference in the interview. there were only 2 with experience. Then she went on to show us an iPad and asked if we all knew what it was. She stated that many candidates don't know how to use them.I thought it was an odd thing to say in a presentation about the company. So I was called into the room with this woman and a flight attendant. She looked at my ten year resume and asked why it didn't include my flight attendant experience. I told her it was longer than a 10 years ago however I stated it under additional experience. Although my previous experience did not make a difference that is all she asked me about. It was a very aggressive interview. She kept repeating that flying had changed a lot since I had flown. I understand that but felt I would catch on quickly. Then she asked me about my computers skills. Odd! I told I had an iPhone, iPad, iwatch. I had no problem operating them. She had no interest in what I was currently doing. When i spoke to the other candidates following the interview, not one of them was asked about their computer skills. I have heard that they hired older flight attendants but perhaps not those who have had experience with other airlines. I have read on Facebook about all the positive experiences in their interviews, this was not my experience. She never smiled, made me feel unwelcome, and just kept typing. I knew when I walked out of that room that I was not going to be offered a position. Southwest boasts about their Servants Heart and the Golden Rule. This woman needs to review some of Southwest's values. I would never make someone feel so unwelcome as she did. I'm not ready to hang up my wings and I know I was a good flight attendant but I will not reapply with Southwest. I look at this company in a whole different light. Too bad. Some may say this is sour grapes but I realize how competitive it is, I just wanted the same opportunity as the other candidates were given.
