Applied directly all Autumn. No reply. All sorts of Analytics roles posted and taken down and put back up again on their jobs site so I had no clue what was happening. Finally able to make a connection with an employee and with my resume referred, I was contacted within a couple days.
We set up a skype recruiter screening. The recruiter explained how popular the analytics roles are (something like a new application every 15 minutes) and that unless they are referred, applications through jobvite are not looked at. Then it was completely standard 30 min recruiter screening questions: Tell me about your work history. How much do you know about Spotify? What are you looking for in your next role? Tell me about a time when your analytics was wrong and what you did about it.
A week later I got an email saying they will not be moving on. Asked for feedback and recieved: "As much as we would like to give feedback to every single candidate, the high volume of applications makes this simply impossible for us to do so.". If you can take time to write that email, you can quickly look for the rejection reason.
This is truly is disheartening because all the skills you work on (analytics, coding, data interpretation, probability and statistics, machine learning, in my case >5 years of analytics/data science and one of the companies involved was also subscription based digital media, etc...) are actually never evaluated. They are just looking for the correct song and dance that you don't know how to prepare for and when rejected, you don't know what the right song and dance actually was.
