I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Success Academy Charter Schools
Interview
There are red flags from the start with this company. If you’re serious about teaching, please look elsewhere. Consider this a warning. They don’t want qualified educators, they want fresh college students who don’t know any better that they can control and manipulate into crazy hours and under extreme rules.
I was initially contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn. I had a phone call with that person and was told to apply for a teaching position on their site and if they were interested they’d reach out. I did and I was contacted the next day about completing an online self-recorded interview. You answer a few questions with a couple minutes prep and then a couple minutes recording for each answer. I received an email less than 24 hours later that they wanted to set up an in-person interview. This was suspect as it was clear they didn’t watch my videos. There’s no way a leadership team was able to review my application and 8 recorded responses in the time it took for me to be invited in for the group interview.
Red flag aside, I decided to go. I genuinely cared about teaching kids and was hopeful for this opportunity. The group interview was like the first day of school. Everyone introduced themselves and said something fun, blah blah. We were literally told not to view each other as competition because there were “plenty of openings” for all of us. What a farce. I was a bit leery during introductions as most of the staff was extremely young and all progressed up the leadership ladder almost immediately with very little company experience. After this you watch a presentation then split into smaller groups and practice classroom discipline. They make everyone do it their way following a script, which is what is implemented in the classroom. Again, they want college kids they can tell exactly what to say and do. Dangerous territory. They also take notes on everything you say while you’re talking, which not only amplifies someone’s anxiety but also shows they aren’t listening. After all is said and done you go in for 1:1 interviews with a recruiter or two then give feedback on two poems using SA laptops to judge your comprehension.
The main takeaways of the day and why I’m grateful I wasn’t offered a contract: The hours are much longer than any other teaching position, but they angle it as their “unique” teaching approach, and most classes average at 30 students with no aides, which they somehow get away with yet isn’t realistic for long-term contracts. They burn out their employees quickly and most don’t return. They’re a revolving door and I wish I would’ve read reviews before I wasted my time and ambition on a dead end.
I also think it’s suspicious that they don’t have a great rating on here, but recently a bunch of “anonymous current employees” have come here to leave similarly amazing 5-Star reviews, nearly at the same time. Something is odd about that. RED FLAGS.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Who is responsible for a child’s learning: the child, the teacher, or the parents and why?
A lot about willingness to discipline, how you grew up, adaptability, etc. Also stuff on what my educational experience was like (strict or not strict)? Also mock roleplay about disciplining a kid

I received a random message on LinkedIn from a recruiter. We had a call where they went over interview prep and scheduled the meeting. They asked pretty standard questions. Teaching experience, why teaching and why this specific academy, a time where you dealt with a difficult situation or person, how do you take constructive criticism then a simulated situation where they give you a scenario about ‘difficult’ parents and kids.

The interview is done very quickly, and the questions are to the point. The interviewee should try to answer in a short, precise manner. Confidence is essential for the interview.
