      Retail Sales Associate Interview

      Nov 19, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Phoenix, AZ
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at T-Mobile (Phoenix, AZ) in Nov 2015

      Interview

I visited a retail location and asked to speak with a hiring manager after completing the online application. The manager redirected me to their PHX corporate office to be interviewed by a panel. I arrived at the office and was brought to their break room to wait for a group interview. The person who greeted me, prepared me for the interview, and saw me out forgot my name three or four times throughout the course of the interview. The last time he forgot, he was holding my résumé in his hand and still asked me my name. He would not look me in the eye. His female counterpart was late and also seemed disinterested in conducting the interview. They started by highlighting their personal successes with the company and went directly to questioning. At the end of the interview, the woman gave me an uninspiring, practically scripted speech about being a "passionate individual." When she strayed from the buzzwords and glistening generalities, she did not seem very familiar with their company's policies at all. Overall, the interview was disingenuous, disheartening, and uncomfortable. I've worked for a few of the bigger names in tech and this was the most poorly conducted interview I've ever participated in. I received a telephone offer for the position the next week and declined. Maybe this is all a fluke, but at any rate, this is my account. I will not apply for employment with this company again.

      Application

I interviewed at T-Mobile (Jersey City, NJ)

      Interview

They didn't specify what they wanted, claiming a flexible schedule and really emphasizing hiring women, and the whole point is not to check all the boxes. I only asked for Sundays off, and they said they specifically needed me for those days. However, there was no indication in the application that they would specify this; otherwise, I wouldn't have applied. So, needless to say, I didn't get the job because I wasn't willing to compromise. I mean, if none of that matters to you, then I'm sure you can get the job.
