I was headhunted by an internal recruiter at Tanium who convinced me how good the people values are and the company is on the verge of something big. This was followed with a couple of interviews including spending an hour talking to a VP of TAMs which was all very positive.
It was all well till the Panel interview where the whole experience went downhill. The recruitment team had not forwarded the scenario that I was going to present to the Panel which was a pre-req to this interview. The panel seemed upset because of this. I had to spend time explaining everything again which lost the impact. To make it worse, the panel had no clue why I was talking to them and had to explain all the previous interviews to date and how this meeting has come about. They had no prior information or background on me. The panel leader read my CV in front of me for the first time. I found this quite disrespectful. It appeared the team are full of TAMs from Security expertise and Pre-sales is a new capability that is not well understood at Tanium. I still built the conversation back up and mostly commanded the room through the interview having answered everything they could potentially ask. The panel was much more positive at the end and there were no apologies due to their lack of internal communication.
Received a call a couple days later saying the demo wasn’t good enough and they couldn’t feel my enthusiasm - to be honest I was pretty much thinking the same of them. So much for a company that boasts of people values. I believe I might have got saved from a wrong move as I am not desperate to find another job. Overall, the process is well structured and you get to prepare for interviews well if you are applying at multiple places. Just don’t trust the hype of the reviews, something’s not quite right here!
