I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Target (Pittsburgh, PA) in Jul 2011
Interview
I applied to the ETL position on the internet. I didnt hear anything for about 2 months or so. Then I got an email asking for a time for someone from corporate to call me. The interview went okay- nothing too hard. Just basic questions like- tell me about yourself, leadership strengths and weaknesses. THen she told me she was going to pass me onto the next interview.
The next interview was to be in person with a senior team leader but not of the area i would be working. I went to the store 15 mins early and asked for her. They took me to the back office- half of the employees in the back have never heard of her and half didnt know she was supposed to be in the store today. Therefore, they put me in an interview room. i waited for a half hour almost for her to finally show up with a look on her face like where was i? She did say she was sorry about all that but she was in starbucks waiting for me. I told her i asked for her and no one knew where she was. We then sat down to begin. (Not once did she tell me to meet her in starbucks, she even said she didnt bring my number with her to call me in case something happened...very unprofessional i think) Then she went on with simple questions and even what i like to do outside of work - then discussed a lot about how she is where she is and about her family and their vacation. Then asked if i had any questions... i thought it was done but then and she began the hard questions. She asked things like - describe a team project in school i took the lead of - describe a time you helped make a team leader better - and a few others i dont really remember ...I felt the questions where not very good questions because most had nothing to do with my experience and what i have been doing. Not one question where i could describe why i feel i would really be a good match. they were odd questions. Then it ended and a few days later i got the standard turn-down email.I was okay with it because i knew it was coming.
Basically, i was very excited to get this interview and seemed like a great opportunity but the interview went horrible especially because she probably got a bad impression waiting for me somewhere she never told me to go, also she was a very young manager who seemed to have moved up fast therefore she wasnt very nice.Got too much too soon. I would have love to have that opportunity but i suggest you really study behavior questions and make sure you have a place to meet them so there is no confusion. My views on target have definitely went down because the process was very unprofessional to me.
Got the interview from a career fair. Met with one person who handled hiring and had a great conversation and had one other phone interview. Asked me relevant questions and I was excited about the role

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Target (Charlotte, NC)
Interview
It was a two step interview process. Personable and you are able to interview with not only your direct managers but theirs as well. Provides transparency into your new team. My interview was virtual because I was moving to the area, but I'm sure they do in person for local folks.
